The functionality of the GNU Emacs editor provided by the Sun WorkShopTM integrated programming environment is similar to the GNU Emacs editor that you can start from a shell. Sun WorkShop adds a menu bar. For more information, see the online documentation available through the editor Help menu.

The GNU Emacs editor window has the following components:
Menu Bar (GNU Emacs Editor Window) Provides commands for editing and some common Sun WorkShop operations.
Display Pane Displays the contents of the current file.
Mode Line (GNU Emacs Editor Window) Displays information about the current state of the buffer.
Message area Displays information about the current editing operation and error messages.
