Selecting Experiments, Samples, Threads, and LWPs for Analysis

You can limit the information that is displayed by specifying only certain experiments, samples, threads, and LWPs for which to display metrics. Each experiment can have its own selection of samples, threads and LWPs. Metrics appear only for those experiments, samples, threads, and LWPs that you select.

Note - When a sample is selected, a drop shadow appears behind it in the right Overview display pane.

You can select experiments, samples, threads, and LWPs individually, in ranges, or in groups of any order:
   Click the Filters button in the upper tool bar of any display.

Using the Experiments List

Use the Experiments list to select experiments for which you want to change the metrics displayed, or to disable data display for one or more experiments. Experiments that are enabled (for which data is currently displayed) are preceded by an asterisk (*). Experiments that are selected are highlighted.

To select an experiment:
   Click on an unselected experiment in the Experiment list.

The experiment is highlighted. You can now use the text boxes to change the metrics you want displayed for this experiment.

To deselect an experiment:
   Click on a selected experiment in the Experiment list.

To select all of the experiments in the Experiment list:
   Click Select All.

The experiments are highlighted. You can now use the text boxes to change the metrics you want displayed for these experiments.

To clear all of the experiment selections:
   Click Clear All.

To select the unselected experiments and deselect the selected experiments:
   Click Reverse.

To enable data display for all experiments in the list:
   Click Enable All.

To enable data display for all selected experiments in the list:
   Click Enable All Selected.

To disable data display for all experiments in the list:
   Click Disable All.

To disable data display for all selected experiments in the list:
   Click Disable All Selected.

Using the Text Boxes

After selecting one or more experiments, use the text boxes to specify the samples, threads, and LWPs for which you want to display data. The available ranges of values are displayed below the text boxes. You can select samples, threads, and LWPs in any number and any combination.

To select a single sample, thread, or LWP:
   Type the ID number of the sample, thread, or LWP in the Samples, Threads, or LWPs text box

To select a range of samples, threads, or LWPs:
   Type the lower and higher IDs of the range in the Samples, Threads, or LWPs text box, separated by a hyphen (for example, 5-12)

To select a non-contiguous set of samples, threads, or LWPs:
   Type the sample IDs in the Samples, Threads, or LWPs text box, separated by commas (for example, 3,7,15,21).

To select all samples, threads, or LWPs in the experiment record(s):
   Click the All button to the left of the text box.

Note - If your program is not multithreaded, you will have one thread and one LWP.
